Squatters blamed for fire at vacant house

Squatters are being blamed for a fire this morning in a vacant Las Vegas house that caused an estimated $5,000 damage, officials said.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue crews responded at 11:13 a.m. to the fire in the 1600 block of D Street. They found trash and a mattress on fire in a room in the house and quickly extinguished the flames.

The fire was confined to a single room in the house, officials said. No injuries were reported.
