It was clear that a last-place team was hosting a first-place team Friday night at the Orleans Arena.

The Las Vegas Wranglers came out flat, surrendering 19 shots en route to a 4-0 Alaska lead after one period as Wrangler goaltender Travis Fullerton faced unrelenting pressure.

Las Vegas winger Shawn Skelley netted the Wranglers' lone goal 3:54 into the second period, although Alaska would outshoot the Wranglers by a margin of 2-1 in the period. Alaska's continued pressure led to a 5-1 edge as Zach McKelvie found the back of the Wranglers' net near the end of the second frame.

The third period was scoreless, but not entirely uneventful. The physicality of the match culminated in a brief fight between Adam Huxley and McKelvie that roused a home crowd that featured a raucous section of Aces fans.

The same teams face off Saturday at the Orleans Arena with the puck dropping at 7:05 p.m.
