Natural gas leak shuts down intersection; businesses in area evacuated

Area of gas leak

Construction crews struck a natural gas pipe today near Vegas Drive and Decatur Boulevard, causing traffic to be shut down and area businesses to be evacuated.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue responded about 11:30 a.m. to reports of the crew hitting a 4-inch gas line at 4910 Vegas Drive and causing a leak. Small businesses at the intersection were evacuated and the roads were closed for about an hour, Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

The gas line was shut off about 12:45 p.m. and the roads are being reopened, Szymanski said.
