A pedestrian is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon, according to Metro Police.

Richard Walinch, 49, of Las Vegas was hit by the front end of a Chevrolet Suburban traveling northbound on Swenson Street near Desert Inn Road at 4:10 p.m., Lt. Dave Valenta said.

Police are investigating the possibility that Walinch intentionally stepped into traffic, Valenta said.

Witnesses told police that Walinch ran into the street from the east side of Swenson, heading west. He was not in a crosswalk, according to police.

The pedestrian was transported to Sunrise Hospital with serious injuries.
