Editor’s note: There are more than 1 million apps available for download from Apple's App Store and a similar number of Android apps available on Google Play. Staff writer Brian Nordli weighs in on one of the applications he deems worthy of being the Sun’s App of the Week.

Phone App: MyVegas

Where can you find it: Apple’s App Store or Android’s Google Play

Cost: Free

What is it: The concept behind MyVegas is simple: Play the slot machines, accumulate reward points and cash them in for discounts on the Strip.

Yet the app is surprisingly addictive just like the real slot machines that keep people funneling their money in for hours at the casino. The game is bursting with colors, animated sequences and hidden mini-games that make it difficult to not press spin one more time.

Users also have an experience bar that, once filled, offers bonus coins, reward points and new slot machines that fill up the reward bar even faster. With so much going on, it can be easy to lose a couple of hours mindlessly pressing spin and collecting rewards.

Fortunately, the app does not cost anything. Every hour, the app provides additional slot machine coins users can collect to keep playing. For those who run low, the app offers coins at varying prices.

Rewards can be cashed in at MGM Resorts International casinos, House of Blues, Wolfgang Puck and other places along the Strip. Users can get discounted room rates, free drinks and food discounts.

The app is so simple, it’s hard not to stop spinning.
