Ex-nurse aide sentenced for sexually assaulting patients

A 62-year-old former nursing assistant has been sentenced to 30 years to life in Nevada state prison for sexually assaulting five female patients at a Las Vegas hospital in 2008.

Steven D. Farmer maintained his innocence during his sentencing Wednesday in Clark County District Court.

A 40-year-old woman called Farmer a monster and told Judge Carolyn Ellsworth she was still trying to rebuild her life after she was victimized in 2008.

Prosecutor Jacqueline Bluth asked for and received the maximum sentence.

A jury found Farmer guilty in February of 13 of 15 counts of sexual assault, open and gross lewdness and indecent exposure stemming from his work at Centennial Hills Hospital Medical Center.

Deputy Public Defender Jeff Maningo says Farmer will appeal his conviction and sentence.
