Fugitive arrested after standoff at downtown Reno hotel

RENO — Reno police arrested a fugitive from Tennessee after a five-hour standoff with a SWAT team at a downtown hotel.

Police say William Douglas Wynn has been on the run since he skipped out on his 2012 trial after he was charged with vehicular manslaughter in Crossville, Tennessee.

Detectives say he barricaded himself a room at the Riverboat Hotel when they tried to serve him a warrant about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say he made threats and indicated he was armed so they closed off a block around the hotel in the main casino district while a SWAT team initiated negotiations.

He surrendered about 5:30 p.m. and was booked into the Washoe County jail where he awaits extradition back to Tennessee.
