Coroner: Man suspected of killing child died of overdose

A man suspected of killing his 16-month-old foster daughter before committing suicide died from a prescription drug overdose, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Joaquin Juarez-Paez, 37, died from hydrocodone and acetaminophen intoxication, the Coroner’s Office reported. Hydrocodone and acetaminophen are commonly found in combination in Vicodin and its generics.

Both ingredients have pain-relieving properties, though hydrocodone is also used to treat coughs and acetaminophen reduces fevers. Hydrocodone is a narcotic and can be addictive.

Metro Police said they believe Juarez-Paez killed his foster daughter, Michell Momox-Caselis, and then committed suicide.

The cause of Momox-Caselis’ death is still pending, the Coroner’s Office said.

The toddler was found dead in her crib Oct. 12 by her foster mother, police said.

Juarez-Paez was found dead in the parking lot of the Oasis Vinings apartments, 6100 Carmen Blvd., in the area of North Jones Boulevard and Vegas Drive, police said.
