Eureka County sheriff recovering after accident

EUREKA — Eureka County Sheriff Kenneth Jones is recovering from serious injuries suffered in an accident while responding to a bus crash.

The sheriff's office, in a statement, says Jones' vehicle slid off the Newmont Mine Highway on Saturday afternoon as he responded to the bus crash about 15 miles north of Carlin.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports Jones was taken to a Reno hospital, where he's expected to make a full recovery. Details about his injuries were not released.

The Nevada Highway Patrol says a Coach USA bus ran off a county road and overturned, and the weather was a contributing factor as high winds blew sleet and snow onto the roads.

All nine occupants were extricated from the bus and taken to a hospital for treatment with what the NHP called non-incapacitating injuries.
