Memorial honors Nevadans who died while serving in military

A memorial to 800 Nevadans who gave their lives while serving their country was unveiled Monday on the eve of Veterans Day.

The Nevada Fallen Heroes book will be displayed on the main floor of the state Capitol. The names date back to the Civil War.

The public will not be able to turn the pages to find a name, but that information will be forthcoming on the governor's website.

About 150 people showed up for the ceremony at the Veterans’ Wall in the rear of the Capitol, including some who lost relatives.

Gov. Brian Sandoval called it a “living memorial” and each name “tells a different story.”

Sandoval told reporters after the ceremony he will ask the Legislature to expand employment opportunities for veterans and plans to complete the veterans’ home in Northern Nevada, similar to the one in Clark County.
