Nevada drivers are taking less of a hit at the pump as gasoline prices continue to drop, due largely to the lower cost of crude oil, according to the latest AAA Nevada fuel survey.

Prices statewide for unleaded regular gas averaged $3.10 a gallon today, down about 30 cents from the last survey Oct. 14, the report said.

In Las Vegas, the price averaged about $3.05 a gallon, a 29 cent decrease from last month’s survey. At some places around the valley, gas is less than $3 a gallon.

North Las Vegas, meanwhile, had the lowest average price at $3.04, while Elko drivers were paying an average of about $3.25 a gallon, the highest in the state.

Nevada’s average gas prices peaked in June 2008 at $4.27 per gallon, the report noted.

“Absent of any unanticipated market-moving events this winter, the retail price for gasoline is expected to remain relatively low,” Cynthia Harris, AAA Nevada spokeswoman, said in the report.

Gas prices nationwide have dropped 46 days in a row, reaching an average of $2.93 per gallon, the lowest since December 2010, according to the report. It is the longest string of daily declines since 2008, the report said.

AAA credited a multi-month drop in the cost of crude oil for the lower prices. Saudi Arabia last week unexpectedly lowered its price per barrel for crude sold to the United States, the report said.
