The Rebel Room

UNLV's Got (Don't Say) Talent

On this episode of UNLV's Got Talent, Rebels beat writer Taylor Bern tells colleagues Ray Brewer and Case Keefer why they need to stop using that word as the go-to for UNLV's basketball program.

The Rebels’ opening weekend got a little bigger today.

Bishop Gorman senior Stephen Zimmerman, one of the top players in the class of 2015, announced on Twitter that he would use his fifth and final official visit on UNLV this weekend. Zimmerman recently canceled a visit to North Carolina, leaving him with an opening, and has already visited Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky and UCLA.

Even though UNLV wasn’t on his original list of visits, Zimmerman said the Rebels were still in the running. He and his family have attended many UNLV games over the years, so Zimmerman had planned on using the official visits, which are paid for by the school, to see out-of-town programs.

Zimmerman has already said he plans to announce his decision in the spring and he won’t sign a letter of intent. The Rebels open the season at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Morehead State and then host Sam Houston State at 5 p.m. Sunday.

The Rebels already have one commit in the class of 2015 — Canadian guard Jalen Poyser — and one in the class of 2016 — Findlay Prep forward Justin Jackson.
