Lawsuits seek back wages for dancers at 6 strip clubs

CARSON CITY — Six Las Vegas strip clubs have been named in lawsuits seeking back wages for dancers.

The legal actions come after the Nevada Supreme Court ruled last month that dancers at the Sapphire Gentlemen’s Club in Las Vegas were employees, not independent contractors, and entitled to be paid minimum wage.

The suits, filed last week in District Court, name Larry Flynt’s Hustler Club, Club Paradise, Crazy Horse III, Olympic Gardens, Treasures and the Spearmint Rhino.

Ryan Anderson, one of the lawyers who filed the suits, said today that the next step is to seek class-action status to cover thousands of current and former dancers.

If the lawsuits are successful, it would mean millions of dollars in back pay for the dancers, Anderson said.

In the Sapphire lawsuit, some of the dancers said they earned up to $100,000 a year in tips. But they were required to pay fees to the club and DJ to perform.
