Coroner: Woman found near Lake Mead recreation area was strangled

A woman whose body was found near the entrance to the Lake Mead National Recreation Area earlier this month has been identified by the Clark County Coroner’s office as 41-year-old Julia G. Lopez-Maravilla.

Lopez-Maravilla died of strangulation in a homicide, the Coroner’s Office said.

Her body was found wrapped in plastic Nov.15 near Lake Mead Boulevard and Pabco Road, Red Rock Search and Rescue Cmdr. David Cummings said.

When the body was discovered, the group had been searching for Susana Villalvazo, 46, who disappeared Nov. 5 with 75-year-old Samuel Teran.

Teran later shot and killed himself when a North Las Vegas Police officer attempted to stop his car at a fast-food restaurant.

Villalvazo is still missing.
