Three children were hit by a vehicle near a Las Vegas elementary school this morning and taken to a hospital with injuries that didn't appear life-threatening, Metro Police said.

The accident was reported at 7:18 a.m. near Hewetson Elementary School in the 700 block of North 20th Street, police said.

The children, siblings ages 6, 8 and 9, were taken to University Medical Center, police said.

The children had been dropped off by a family member across the street from the school and weren't in a crosswalk when they were hit, Metro Officer Laura Meltzer said.

The pedestrians are believed to have been at fault, Meltzer said.

The vehicle was moving at low speed, and the motorist wasn't believed to have been impaired, Meltzer said.

The driver remained at the scene, police said.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
