With its Las Vegas-area shelters running out of room, The Animal Foundation is waiving all of its pet adoption fees over the Thanksgiving weekend.

The foundation will waive fees for spay/neuter surgeries, microchips, up-to-date vaccines and more Friday through Sunday, according to a news release issued Wednesday. Such adoptions are valid on all pets, including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens and turtles.

Though a $10 city license fee may apply, the offer means that some pet parents will get to take home their pets at no cost.

The foundation says that if adopters don't emerge, it faces the reality of "euthanizing healthy animals due to the lack of space."

"We’re at a critical juncture, and we’re asking for the community’s help and support,” said Christine Robinson, executive director of The Animal Foundation. “The reality is that we’re out of space. ... By adopting one of our shelter pets this weekend, you’ll not only save that pet’s life, you’ll help us help create space to care for the hundreds of new pets entering our care every week through no fault of their own.”

According to the release, more than 400 pets are available for adoption at the foundation’s adoption centers.

The foundation allows potential adopters to view animals through an online database. Adopters will be required to complete in-person adoption counseling.

The Animal Foundation has two adoption centers, the Campus Adoption Center at 655 N. Mojave Road, Las Vegas, and the PetSmart Charities Everyday Adoption Center at 286 W. Lake Mead Parkway, Henderson. For hours of operation or additional information, visit the foundation’s website.
