letter to the editor:

We are no longer represented

Why is there such a gap between Washington and working families?

Billionaires make large contributions to campaigns and can hire armies of lobbyists, which means every rule written or action taken is tilted toward plutocrats. Our country is in great danger because the billionaires can get enough politicians in Washington to do their bidding at the expense of the rest of us.

Families who have lost jobs or face high medical debts, are trying to send their children to college or are struggling to make ends meet are being squeezed to death.

We need to invest in infrastructure, jobs, education and research to build a strong country and a future for our children, but we have politicians who are willing to drive the country over a cliff to keep loopholes for millionaires. We can’t even get an open debate on the issues that matter to the middle class and the future of the country. A minimum wage raise is supported by 70 percent of the public and all of the Democrats, but the Republicans are blocking it. They no longer represent the people and don’t care if we know it.

It is time to wake up and say, “You are not representing me, and I am not going to vote for you anymore.”
