An inmate from Clark County died of a medical condition Wednesday at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections.
Frank Ortiz, 45, died in the mental health unit of the center's regional medical facility, officials said in a statement.
Ortiz was serving a sentence of 10 years to life in prison for a sexual assault, officials said.
The former security officer was accused in January 1997 of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in Las Vegas after offering her a ride home, according to court documents.
An autopsy will be conducted by the Carson City Sheriff's Coroner's Office.
