Officials: Jail inmate’s Ebola story was fake

Officials at the Clark County Detention Center say an inmate who claimed he was suffering from Ebola lied about visiting Africa and tested negative for the virus.

Police say the inmate was booked into the jail on Saturday night, and starting claiming symptoms on Sunday morning.

Officials say they immediately segregated him from other inmates and took him to University Medical Center.

Staff members dealing with the man put on protective gear, and the areas where the inmate had been were decontaminated.

The inmate later tested negative for Ebola, and an investigation revealed that the man had never been outside the U.S.

He was re-booked into the jail.
