A man suspected of participating in a home invasion last month that left a man dead was arrested Monday, Metro Police said.

Robert Figueroa, 28, of Las Vegas was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on counts of murder and burglary in connection with the Sept. 21 invasion at a west valley house, according to a police report.

Witnesses told police two armed men wearing orange ski masks kicked in the front door of the house in the 1600 block of Broadmere Street, near South Hualapai Way and West Charleston Boulevard, according to the report.

A resident at the house was also armed and got into a gun battle with the suspects, police said.

Another resident, Monty Gibson, 48, was found dead in the doorway of the house from gunshot wounds, police said. He is believed to have been unarmed, according to the report.

A witness told police Thursday that Figueroa was involved in the crime and suffered gunshot wounds, according to the report.

Arresting officers reported Figuroa had gunshot wounds to his lower left hip and left torso, the report said.

In his apartment, detectives found medical discharge papers from Sept. 24 indicating Figueroa was treated for gunshot wounds, a broken jaw, a broken tooth and a cut tongue, according to the report.

Police believe he was treated in California, the report said.

Figueroa told police he drove to a house to buy marijuana when he saw the front door open, according to the report. He told police he heard gunfire and fled the area after being shot, leaving his car.

Another suspect, 32-year-old Las Vegas resident Jorge Mendoza, was taken into custody after the home invasion, according to the report. He also faces counts of murder and burglary.

A trail of blood from the scene led officers to Mendoza, who was found hiding in a nearby car with a gunshot wound to his left leg, the report said. Officers also found a 9mm rifle near the house, according to the report.
