A view of the white “bathtub” ring around Lake Mead indicates the drop in water level through the years from the lake’s high point.

Las Vegas K-12 students have a chance to turn ideas about water conservation into cash, courtesy of a valley company.

Yes! Air Conditioning & Plumbing's “Think Clean” contest will provide cash prizes to students in three age groups for the most creative examples of ways to conserve water. Students can convey their ideas through essays, posters, drawings or any other way they choose.

The goal is to draw children’s attention to drought and the dwindling water resources in the valley, said Shannon White, a spokeswoman for Yes!

The contest, which runs through Nov. 14, is modeled on the company’s "Think Green" contest to highlight ways kids can conserve energy. There is no limit to the children’s creativity in the contest, White said. A past winner designed a video game, where users controlled little monsters to gobble up garbage outside to gain points.

Yes! will choose the winners, with the top two entries among students in each of the three age categories — high school, middle school and elementary school — receiving a cash prize. Prize amounts are $250 for high school, $150 for middle school $100 for elementary school. Projects must be submitted via email to [email protected] or mailed to Yes! Think Clean, 9731 Irvine Center Drive, Irvine, Calif., 92618.
