An 18-year-old woman was killed and another woman injured Wednesday night when a car reportedly involved in a theft at a convenience store crashed into a utility pole, Metro Police said.

The 2004 Chevrolet Aveo was headed south on Fort Apache, near Sahara Avenue, about 11:30 p.m. when it ran off the road and hit the pole and a tree, police said. No other vehicles were involved.

The 18-year-old passenger, whose name was not released pending notification of family, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another woman, 20, was taken to University Medical Center with moderate injuries, police said.

Two males in the car, including the driver, got out and ran away, police said.

Before the crash, the car was reportedly involved in a burglary/larceny at a convenience store near the intersection of Charleston Boulevard and Hualapai Way, police said.
