High School Football:

Nick Trejo goes animalistic in Coronado’s blowout of Foothill

Coronado vs. Liberty

STEPHEN SYLVANIE / SPECIAL TO THE SUN

A very vocal section of visiting Coronado Cougar fans cheer on their team against the Patriots at Liberty High School on Friday night.

Both Coronado and Foothill scored on their first plays Friday night.

The pace slowed from there, just more drastically for the Falcons. Coronado posted a shutout aside from an 80-yard passing touchdown caught by Aedan Bartolowitz to start the game, walloping Foothill 34-7.

“Our cornerback made a mistake on the play, and he knew the mistake he made and adjusted,” Coronado coach Brad Talich said. “We adjusted too and they didn’t do much the rest of the game.”

Foothill’s lead was short-lived as Travis Bowman took a pass from Spencer Cofer 75 yards for a touchdown 30 seconds later. Coronado rolled from there.

Nick Trejo racked up more than 200 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Jordan Patterson and DaQu’an Davis also picked up yards on the ground.

“Trejo was an animal tonight,” Talich said. “He’s fast, quick and solid. He used cutback lanes and was great for us.”

Talich also said that Coronado’s offensive line recorded its best game of the season. Coronado wraps up the regular season against Basic next week, while Foothill travels to Green Valley.
