Marcus Sherman was fired Friday as the Desert Oasis football coach.
Sherman was ready to coach the Diamondbacks against Centennial on Friday night, but he was called into the office by administrators hours before the game and relieved of his coaching duties, he said.
Sherman, who was in his first season, said two of his assistants were also dismissed. Mike Ovens is the interim coach.
Sherman declined to discuss why he was fired. He remains a teacher at Desert Oasis.
Desert Oasis has just one win entering its regular season finale Friday against Durango. It’s a playoff qualifier, though, and will likely play Bishop Gorman in two weeks in the Sunset Regional quarterfinals.
A call to the Desert Oasis athletics office wasn't immediately returned.
