Employers to pay more to restore unemployment trust fund

CARSON CITY — Businesses in Nevada will be paying more next year toward restoring the state’s unemployment trust fund.

Nevada Employment Security Division officials said today the annual tax employers pay will increase from an average of $707 to $711 per employee.

During the recession, the agency drained the fund, and the state had to borrow from the federal government to make its payments to the jobless.

There are 37,328 businesses that pay into the fund.
