A fire with flames almost as high as the roof broke out in the garage of a home in the western valley Tuesday night, causing about $45,000 in damage, officials said.

Crews received reports about 8:15 p.m. of heavy flames coming from the garage of a two-story house at 8044 Kokoma Drive, near Washington Avenue and Cimarron Road, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

Two adults and a teenager were home while the fire consumed the garage, he said.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters cleared the flames and contained them to the garage by dousing the fire, Szymanski said.

The fire gutted the garage, and the flames and heat damaged two vehicles in the driveway and one on the street, he said.

Other than a shattered window, no other areas of the home sustained damage, he said.

The displaced residents are receiving help from the American Red Cross. Smoke filled the house and utilities were cut off to allow crews to fight the fire, Szymanski said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The residents are receiving help from the American Red Cross.
