The man accused of striking a Metro officer with his car and then fleeing the scene Thursday evening has been identified.

Henderson resident Jacob Groh, 18, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, driving under the influence of drugs and multiple other traffic offenses, Metro Police announced today.

Officers were trying to move cars out of the roadway at the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Windmill Lane after a collision when a maroon 2002 Hyundai Elantra approached the stopped traffic at a high speed, according to Metro.

According to a police report, the driver then came to a sudden stop. One of the officers instructed him to roll down his window, but he did not follow the command, police said.

Police say the driver instead accelerated, striking one of the officers and dragging him a short distance with the car.

The officer clung to the front of the vehicle and pushed himself off it when it swerved as it headed west, police said.

The driver attempted to turn northbound on Spencer Street but his speed caused him to cross over into the southbound lanes and hit another vehicle, according to the report. Police said the driver then lost control of the vehicle, causing it to hit a wall.

The driver and a passenger, identified as Las Vegas resident Aaron Miller, 18, fled on foot, according to the report. Police set up a perimeter in the area during a search for the suspects and apprehended Miller near the site of the second crash.

Miller was booked on suspicion of failing to give information to an officer at a vehicle accident. Plainclothes officers took Groh into custody Thursday night near his apartment in the 2800 block of Bluegrass Lane in Henderson.

Police say Groh admitted to having smoked methamphetamine two hours prior to the event.

Neither suspect has been formally charged.
