Former Station Casinos manager pleads guilty to tax evasion

A former manager in the corporate advertising department of Station Casinos pleaded guilty to tax evasion Tuesday.

Anthony Cirulli, a former production manager for the company, reportedly avoided about $350,000 in taxes by filing a false return for the 2007 tax year and hiding income in two bank accounts, according to the U.S. attorney's office.

The accounts used, according to a plea agreement, were for 5821 Inc. and Wire to Wire Stables LLC, two companies that didn't perform any actual business activity.

“Individuals are required to pay federal taxes on income, even if acquired unethically,” said Daniel Bogden, U.S. attorney for Nevada. “If you do not pay the taxes, you risk an investigation by the IRS and criminal prosecution.”

Cirulli, who will be sentenced Dec. 18, could face a fine of up to $250,000, a maximum five-year prison sentence or both. The prison sentence in this case cannot be shortened by early release.

Cirulli would then be subject to a supervised release of no more than three years.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, Cirulli would also have to make restitution to the U.S. Treasury with the amount determined at sentencing.
