NV Energy customers to pick up tab for one Tesla incentive

CARSON CITY — NV Energy customers in Northern Nevada will pay an estimated $1 more a year to compensate for one incentive proposed to bring a Tesla battery factory to the state.

Under the proposal, the company would receive a 30 percent reduction on its power bill for two years, a 20 percent reduction for the next four years and a 10 percent cut for another two years.

The state Bureau of Consumer Protection isn’t going to protest, officials said.

Dan Jacobsen, technical staff manager for the bureau, said such an incentive was approved by the 2013 Legislature for four years to lure industry to Nevada. He said there would be no challenge to Gov. Brian Sandoval’s plan to extend it to eight years for Tesla because it will stimulate economic development.
