Program offers at-risk students free tutoring, homework help

Homework help and tutoring services returned today for thousands of at-risk students in the Las Vegas Valley with the launch of Andson Academic’s Tutor Orientation and Academics Kickoff at Las Vegas City Hall.

The local nonprofit pays more than 120 certified Clark County School District teachers to provide free tutoring for at-risk students.

Through the program, teachers provide after-school assistance at all Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada, two Clark County libraries, the St. Jude’s Ranch for Children in Boulder City and 14 district schools. Since the Andson program began in 2010, it has helped more than 10,000 students.

The services are provided through a relationship with the Boys and Girls Clubs, Vegas PBS, After-School All Stars, Communities In Schools, the school district, St. Jude’s Ranch and the city of Las Vegas.
