UNLV’s Karam Mashour drives past Cal State-Bakersfield forward Adam Young during their game Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012 at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield. UNLV won their final non-conference game 89-57.

The Rebels will open the basketball regular season against Morehead State at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, it was announced today. Their second game, at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16, will be against Sam Houston State. Both home games are part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.

The opponents have been known for some time, but UNLV was waiting on the announcement from Coaches vs. Cancer. UNLV will see a familiar face in the opener, as former Rebel Karam Mashour is a senior at Morehead State.

The event is similar to many of the early season tournaments that UNLV has played in with a pair of home games leading into the championship bracket at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The Rebels play Stanford at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, and then either Duke or Temple the following day.

In recruiting news, the Rebels are one of six finalists for class of 2015 guard Eric Davis, who will announce his decision on Tuesday. Davis, a Michigan native, visited the UNLV campus in August. His other finalists include Michigan State, Michigan, Texas, LSU and North Carolina State.

Also, it appears the Rebels won’t have an official visit with Minnesota guard Jarvis Johnson after all. Johnson was slated to come to campus on Oct. 10, but he will commit early and announce his decision today. He’s expected to commit to Minnesota.
