Despite scoring more than 60 points tonight at Western High, Sierra Vista High’s offense actually watched a lot of the scoring from the sidelines. Sierra Vista played suffocating defense with four interceptions returned for touchdowns in a 64-0 victory.

Senior Andrew Peterson had two of those returns while sophomore Randal Grimes and senior Christian McMahon each had one. Sierra Vista coach John Foss said the offense only ran about 20 plays and the clock was running the entire second half.

“Our starters took a real responsible point of view and put this game in the right context,” Foss said.

The road gets tougher in the coming weeks for Sierra Vista in its first season in Division I-A, starting with next week’s home game against Mojave High.

“We’re excited about (the division) but we realize there are some awfully good teams,” Foss said. “… We’re starting to come together as a team but the ultimate test will be these next few weeks.”
