letter to the editor:

So much for private enterprise

No one can deny that Las Vegas is a world-class entertainment destination. Our resorts excel in producing an experience enjoyed worldwide.

Through the availability of work and education, our citizens have created a place for our children to learn and make a living. We have weathered the Great Recession and are on track to provide good lives for our citizens and their families based mostly upon hard work.

Now comes a company dedicated to creating electric luxury cars, and Nevada is offered a chance for growth if we taxpayers will put up a paltry billion dollars or so to help fund its battery plant. Put another way, taxpayers will contribute to this venture through their sales and property taxes thereby redistributing tax money from all taxpayers to the business owners.

I sincerely wish Tesla well and welcome them to our state as long as they pay their own way. Maybe it’s just me, but I am tired of taxpayers supporting private companies.

Savvy politicians will want see this decided at the ballot box.
