A 16-year-old Mojave High School student arrested Thursday in the shooting death of a woman in North Las Vegas will be charged as an adult, according to the Clark County District Attorney’s Office.

Patrick Wayne Harper, arrested on a count of murder in the slaying of 20-year-old Andrea Lafon, has been certified as an adult and was moved to an adult detention facility on Tuesday, officials said.

Harper originally was booked at a juvenile detention facility after the shooting in the 2600 block of Small Mountain Avenue.

No formal charges have been filed.

North Las Vegas Police believe Harper was attempting to buy marijuana from Lafon when the two got into an argument over the price, according to an arrest declaration from the Clark County Department of Juvenile Justice Services.

Police said witnesses indicated that Harper attempted to grab the marijuana and became angry before allegedly shooting Lafon once in the head.

Lafon was taken to University Medical Center and died the following day, police said.
