Man charged with attempted murder after couple hit by car outside Las Vegas bar

A man was arrested today on attempted murder charges after he allegedly hit a couple with his car Saturday outside a bar near Cashman Center.

Officers responded to the Stateside Lounge, on Las Vegas Boulevard North near Washington Avenue on Saturday after Ivan Jimenez, 21, hit a female pedestrian with his Toyota 4Runner and pinned her against the bar's exterior, according to a Metro Police report. After being hit, the women's fiancé tried to remove Jimenez from his car, but he was also hit.

The couple — Yvonne Watkins and Mervin Collins — suffered multiple injuries and were taken to University Medical Center.

Jimenez had been observed inside the bar, after which he left and got into his car, police said. Jimenez confronted the engaged couple who were walking through the parking lot, and began insulting them, the report said. After allegedly hitting the couple, Jimenez's car ran into a palm tree and was rendered immobilized. He tried to leave on foot.

Two witnesses chased Jimenez and held him until police arrived, the report said.

Police said they found cocaine on Jimenez's clothing as well as alcohol in his system.

He was charged with one count of attempted murder with use of a deadly weapon and two counts of battery with use of a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm. Jimenez — who was booked into the Clark County Detention Center — was also charged with a DUI.
