Rebels’ annual Scarlet and Gray Showcase slated for Oct. 16

The Rebels’ annual Scarlet & Gray Showcase is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Thomas & Mack Center, UNLV announced today. This year, the free event will include skills challenges along with the scrimmage, legends game and autograph sessions.

There will also be a special event for season-ticket holders earlier that evening at Cox Pavilion. Information will be sent to season-ticket holders in the near future.

“We are excited to begin the 2014-15 season and also for the opportunity to be in front of our fans again,” coach Dave Rice said in a statement. “This is a very important event for our program and we know Runnin’ Rebel fans look forward to it each year. It is a great opportunity for our players to be in front of a crowd as we continue to prepare for games to begin in November.”

The team’s lone exhibition game is at home on Wednesday, Nov. 5, against Florida National. The regular season tips off on Friday, Nov. 14, at home against Morehead State.

The Rebels will feature five new starters, although which of the newcomers will be part of that group is still unknown. Senior guard transfers Cody Doolin and Jerome Seagears have still not been completely cleared by the NCAA. There’s no timetable on those decisions.

The leading returning scorer is Jelan Kendrick at 6.3 points per game.
