Metro Police will honor people killed in domestic violence, other homicide victims

Metro Police on Tuesday afternoon will honor victims of homicide and pay special tribute to those who died as a result of domestic abuse in 2013.

Police and two community organizations will host the event at 5:30 p.m. in front of Metro Police headquarters, 400 S. Martin Luther King Blvd.

Every year, the memorial event honors people who have lost their lives because of domestic violence homicide, Officer Laura Meltzer said.

This year, however, the event will be combined with another ceremony to honor all homicide victims in Clark County, Meltzer said.

A balloon release and candlelight vigil honoring all victims of homicide will take place. Victims of domestic violence homicide will have their names read aloud, Meltzer said.

The domestic violence victims' names will also be engraved on a plaque and join the names of more than 300 victims in Clark County during the past 12 years, according to a news release from Metro Police.

Police will be joined by the Community Coalition for Victims’ Rights and the Southern Nevada Domestic Violence Task Force.
