Sierra Vista continued to assert itself as a Division I-A Sunset contender with a 29-14 road win over Cheyenne on Saturday night.
Maliek Broady scored touchdowns on a kickoff return and a reception, Oscar Aliaga threw a pair of scoring strikes, and the Mountain Lions (4-1, 2-1) bounced back from a 28-7 loss to Mojave last week.
“Our defensive coordinator, coach (Tavita) Seloti, did a great job with the kids this week,” Sierra Vista coach John Foss said. “And the kids played really hard, with a lot of heart. I’m proud of them.”
Aliaga hit Broady and Andrew Peterson with scoring strikes. Broady’s kickoff-return score wasn’t the only special-teams highlight for the Mountain Lions, as Randal Grimes also brought a kickoff back for a touchdown.
“Our special teams did a good job all day,” Foss said.
The Desert Shields fell to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in league.
