Fire guts house in North Las Vegas, does $200,000 damage

Updated Thursday, April 9, 2015 | 10 p.m.

A fire gutted a North Las Vegas house this morning, displacing five people and causing about $200,000 in damage, fire department officials said.

A man who was home during the fire was treated for minor injuries and released, officials said.

No other injuries were reported.

The fire, which was reported about 10 a.m., extended into the attic of a single-family, single-story house in the 2900 block of North Dogwood Avenue, near Las Vegas Boulevard North and North Pecos Road, North Las Vegas Fire Department Capt. Cedric Williams said.

Fire crews who arrived on scene after multiple calls from witnesses saw heavy smoke coming from the right side and back of the house, the North Las Vegas Fire Department said in a news release.

The roof collapsed, and it took North Las Vegas and Las Vegas firefighters more than an hour to completely contain the fire, the department said.

The house is considered a complete loss, Williams said.

The cause of the fire and where it started have not been determined, but it has been ruled an accident, the department said.

No other structures were damaged, fire officials said.

The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada was aiding the two adults and three children displaced by the fire. All five were home when the fire started, according to the fire department.
