Burning weeds leads to house fire near Paradise and Windmill

Burning weeds caused a house fire that resulted in about $60,000 in damage Saturday morning, the Clark County Fire Department said.

An occupant in the house, at 8321 Lodge Haven St., near Paradise Road and East Windmill Lane, had been burning off weeds about eight hours before the fire started, Fire Chief Greg Cassell said.

The fire traveled from the weeds into the wall of the two-story single-family house, where it smoldered throughout the night, eventually resulting in smoke and flames, Cassell said.

Firefighters responded about 4:30 a.m. and extinguished the blaze, which was contained to the walls and the attic, Cassell said.

The occupants of the house were able to escape unharmed and were assisted by the American Red Cross, Cassell said.

The Clark County Fire Department advises against the burning of weeds as a form of weed control.
