Bill would raise boxing, MMA ticket fees in Nevada

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Athletic Commission is asking state lawmakers to increase taxes on tickets to boxing and mixed martial arts events.

Nevada Department of Business and Industry head Bruce Breslow presented AB 476 to lawmakers Tuesday in the Assembly Ways and Means Committee.

The bill would increase fees on ticket sales from six to eight percent and would allow the governor to appoint the head of the Nevada Athletic Commission.

Breslow said the state currently helps fund the commission and raising the fee would not only make the body self-sufficient but would also allow for expanded drug testing before fights.

The bill would take effect during the next fiscal year, so it wouldn't apply to the upcoming Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather bout in Las Vegas.
