Power outages affect 2,600 in Southern Nevada

Updated Tuesday, April 14, 2015 | 9:48 p.m.

More than 100 outages left about 2,600 NV Energy customers without power in Southern Nevada at one point Tuesday evening, according to the company's online Outage Center.

Strong winds were causing scattered outages in the valley, NV Energy spokesman Mark Severts said.

Gusty winds and dust are blowing through the valley following a cold front.

The largest impact as of about 9:40 p.m. was in ZIP code 89102 — in the central valley — in which 1,268 customers were without power, the company said.

NV Energy says service is expected to be restored by 1:15 a.m. in that area.

Severts said most outages have been "momentary trips on major distribution lines."

Electrical wire is down in some parts of the valley, he said.

Crews are working to fix the outages and are prepared to work through the night, he said.

The company is providing up-to-date information on all incidents through its Outage Center.
