Man injured in wreck near Las Vegas welcome sign dies at hospital

A motorist injured earlier this month in a three-vehicle wreck near the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign has died, Metro Police said today.

Russell Slouffman, Jr., 21, of Las Vegas suffered critical injuries about 3 a.m. April 3 when his 2010 Kia Soul ran into the back of a flatbed truck, police said.

The truck had a flashing sign directing traffic to move right as welders worked on fencing near the welcome sign, police said. The car then hit an unoccupied, parked Ford pickup truck, police said.

Slouffman was taken to University Medical Center, where he died on April 4, police said.

The driver of the flatbed truck suffered minor to moderate injuries, police said.
