41 arrested in Las Vegas in roundup of most dangerous fugitives

A six-week operation focused on apprehending the most dangerous felony fugitives resulted in 41 arrests in the Las Vegas Valley and more than 7,100 nationwide, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Additionally, 10 missing children were recovered, officials said.

Operation Violence Reduction 7 targeted fugitives wanted on counts of murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, robbery, aggravated assault, arson, kidnapping, sexual assault and child molestation, officials said.

The operation, conducted March 2 to April 10, also focused on fugitives with three or more prior felony arrests for violent crimes and wanted on counts involving narcotics, weapons offenses, assault and battery and making threats, official said. Gang members and sex offenders received high priority.

In Las Vegas, the operation was conducted by a fugitive task force of deputy U.S. marshals and officers from Metro Police and the Nevada Department of Public Safety.

The operation was “not about increasing arrest numbers, but rather an effort to further protect communities by targeting the most dangerous felony fugitives,” U.S. Marshals Service Director Stacia Hylton said.

Nationally, the operation resulted in 7,127 arrests, including those of 750 gang members, and the seizure of 383 guns and more than 69 kilograms of illegal narcotics, officials said.

Charges included 519 for homicide, 922 for weapons offenses, 1,888 for assault, 583 for sexual assault, 1,093 for robbery and 2,654 for narcotics offenses, officials said.
