One person was found dead in an apartment fire this morning near Spring Mountain Road and Hualapai Way in the west Las Vegas Valley, according to the Clark County Fire Department.

Firefighters contained the blaze to a single unit, where they found an occupant dead after putting out the fire, officials said.

The fire was reported about 6:30 a.m. at a building at 10175 Spring Mountain Road. Flames and smoke were coming from an apartment, official said.

Crews encountered high heat and low visibility but located the fire, put it out, and prevented it from spreading to adjacent apartments, officials said. Fire officials did not say where in the apartment the victim was found.

Further information about the victim, including the cause of death, was not available. The fire is under investigation.

Outside the building, crews treated a patient for a cut, but it was not known if the patient was an occupant of the apartment, officials said. Nobody else was injured.
