Coroner: Man found dead after minor crash suffered cardiac arrest

A man found unresponsive after backing an SUV into a garage Sunday morning died from heart problems, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Billy Jernigan, 63, of Las Vegas suffered a cardiopulmonary arrest and suffered from cardiovascular disease due to high blood pressure, the Coroner’s Office said.

Jernigan was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer about 6:30 a.m. in the north parking lot of Eva Garcia-Mendoza Plaza Apartments, 1950 N. Walnut Road, near East Lake Mead Boulevard, when he hit the garage, Metro Police said.

The rear bumper of the SUV and the garage sustained minor damage, but Jernigan was found unresponsive, police said. He was transported to North Vista Hospital in North Las Vegas, where he was pronounced dead.
