Court upholds sentence in child-pornography case

CARSON CITY — A federal appeals court has upheld the 14-year prison term handed down to a 69-year-old Las Vegas man convicted in 2013 of possessing 1,400 images of child pornography on his home computer.

Steven Byington was convicted of receiving child pornography and possessing the images, according to court records.

The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Friday that the possession count should be tossed out, but it affirmed the 14-year sentence.

Byington maintained the 14-year sentence was unreasonable.

Federal agents in 2010 found four computers and video tapes in Byington’s home that depicted sex acts involving minors, according to court records.
