CARSON CITY — Lawmakers are reviewing a measure that would require police agencies in Nevada to publicly report seized property every year.
Republican Sen. Don Gustavson is sponsoring SB138, which was discussed Tuesday in the Assembly Judiciary Committee.
The measure would require all Nevada law enforcement agencies to report any property they've seized from criminal activities to the attorney general's office every year.
Police agencies would need to detail the type and value of property seized as well as the alleged crime associated with the items. The attorney general's office would need to publish a list of reports received every year by April 1.
The original bill version would have significantly changed forfeiture law but was amended to include only the reporting requirement. It passed out of the Senate unanimously earlier this month.
