Dark Skies-Henderson

Dark skies are seen Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, in Henderson.

A flash-flood watch has been issued for the Las Vegas Valley until 11 p.m. today as scattered showers, gusty winds and lightning head southwest from the mountains, according to the National Weather Service.

The central and east side of the valley have experienced light rain, but the northwest part faces the biggest threat for storms, meteorologist Chad Shafer said.

Floyd Lamb State Park and the Corn Creek Visitor’s center, both in the northwest, are under a flash-flood watch until 3:15 p.m. McCarran International Airport received .03 inch of rain in an hour, while Kyle Canyon received .24 inch of rain in two hours, Shafer said.

Fossil Ridge in the northwest received .2 inch of rain in five minutes, he said.

The threat of rain remains at above 40 percent through the night and is expected to lessen to 5 percent Sunday.

Because of cloudy skies, temperatures were hovering around 80 degrees as of 12:30 p.m., though the projected high is 99 degrees, Shafer said.

The low for tonight is expected to be 81.

Sunday should be mostly sunny with highs ranging from 97 to 102 degrees on the west side of town and 101 to 106 degrees on the east side of the valley, according to the Weather Service.

Lows are expected to range from 76 to 81 degrees in the west part of town and 79 to 84 degrees on the east side of the valley.
