7 injured after guards respond to Carson City prison fight

Seven inmates were injured and officers fired rubber pellets Tuesday evening during a fight at Warm Springs Correctional Center in Carson City, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections.

The fight broke out between two male inmates in the dining room during a meal, the department said in a news release.

When the inmates didn’t heed warnings to stop fighting, authorities fired a blank round and three rubber pellet rounds, the department said.

One of the inmates involved in the fight was taken by air to Renown Hospital in Reno and was still at the facility, the release said. His condition was not immediately available.

The other man in the fight was treated by prison medical personnel and returned to his cell, the department said.

Another five inmates not involved in the fight were treated by medical personnel for superficial wounds from the pellets and returned to their cells, the department said.

The department’s Office of Inspector General is investigating.
